CPM 2004 Aus VogueOn Thursday, April 10, 2014, Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mary of Denmark arrived at the Vikingeskibsmuseet in Roskilde to officially open the new exhibition, Verden i Vikingetiden (The World in the Viking Age).

Per the Vikingeskibsmuseet:

“Experience the Scandinavian Viking Age from a new, global perspective. Join us on sea voyages from the farthest reaches of Scandinavia to the Mediterranean, and from the Persian Gulf to East Africa and China.

Trade, piracy, exploration and maritime networks are not only limited to Europe’s northern harbours and the Vikings’ world. In other parts of the world, people, goods and ideas are also transported over long distances. Sailing ships make it possible to reach new worlds, far away from familiar shores.

At seafaring’s nodal points, complex new cultures, towns, networks and communities emerge. Voyages connect coasts the world over and bring together people of different ideas, beliefs and traditions.”

Verden i Vikingetiden will be open to the public on April 11 – December 30, 2014. For more information about the exhibition please visit the official website for the Vikingeskibsmuseet here.
