Members of the Belgian Royal Family Attend the 2012-2013 Prix International Roi Baudouin pour le Développement en Afrique.

BelgiumAPOn May 22, 2013, Their Majesties King Albert II and Queen Paola of Belgium accompanied by Queen Fabiola, Their Royal Highnesses Prince Philippe and Princess Mathilde of Belgium, and Their Imperial and Royal Highnesses Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz attended the 2012-2013 Prix International Roi Baudouin Pour le Développement en Afrique held at the Palais Royal in Brussels.

The recipient of the award went to Ms. Bogaletch Gebre.  Prior to the award ceremony Their Majesties hosted a lovely luncheon at Château de Laeken in honor of Ms. Gebre and several special guests according to the Belgian royal court.

On May 20, 2013, His Royal Highness Prince Philippe of Belgium accompanied by his daughter, Princess Elisabeth, arrived at the Tour & Taxis in Brussels to visit the exhibition, Inside the Station: The Princess Elisabeth Antarctica.

According to the Belgian royal court, the exhibition “…takes visitors on an interactive journey inside Belgium polar station ‘Princess Elisabeth Antarctica’.”  For more information about the exhibition please click here.

Fun Times at Technopolis For TRHs Prince Philippe and Princess Mathilde of Belgium.

belgiumOn the morning of May 17, 2013, Their Royal Highnesses Prince Philippe and Princess Mathilde of Belgium arrived in Mechelen to inaugurate Technopolis’s newest expanded area known as, Xplora and Inspirience.

According to the official website for Technopolis and RTL:

“Technopolisis the Flemish Science Centre for science and technology. The mission of Technopolisis to bring science and technology closer to people. Technopolis wants to go further than increasing public awareness or insight into science and technology. It wants to engage people in science and technology. That’s why the motto of Technopolisis ‘I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.’

Technopolis operates by the principle of the Trojan horse. Science, as science, is not always attractive to people; they sometimes have an aversion to it because they think it is too difficult. In response to this attitude, Technopolis often presents science in an attractive package or associated with an attractive element, ranging from an exciting story that stimulates youngsters to carry out experiments in a science vehicle, to more well-known ways of presenting the material, such as a calendar full of interesting scientific facts and tests.

New at Technopolis is the ‘Xplora’ area is designed for children aged 8 to 14 years, they will have to use their imagination. The ‘Inspirience’ area is designed for young people aged 14 to 18 years to test their creativity.”

During today’s inauguration, the royal couple played games, met with staff and generally had a fantastic time.  Yay!   🙂

News Regarding Their Royal Highnesses Prince Philippe and Princess Mathilde of Belgium.

belgiumOn the evening of May 16, 2013, Their Royal Highnesses Prince Philippe and Princess Mathilde of Belgium arrived at the Wolubilis Cultural Center in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, Brussels, to attend the 2013 Vocatio Scholarships award ceremony.

According to the Belgian royal court the Vocatio, “… previously known as the Fondation de la Vocation are celebrating their 50th anniversary.  Fifteen scholarships were handed out this evening to various young people worth [roughly] 10,000 Euros…”

PhilHis Royal Highness Prince Philippe of Belgium arrived at the Autoworld in Brussels this afternoon to participate in the opening of the 11th Edition of the European Business Summit.

Today’s event, according to the Belgian royal court, was organized by the Fédération des Entreprises de Belgique and BusinessEurope.

Her Royal Highness Princess Mathilde of Belgium Attends a Conference in Brussels. Plus, Other News.

princessmathildeOn May 14, 2013, Her Royal Highness Princess Mathilde of Belgium attended a conference entitled, Basic Education for Change, organized by the Association Plan Belgique in collaboration with Unicef Belgique.

According to the Belgian royal court today’s conference, held at the Maison des Parlementaires in Brussels, discussed “…the role of the Belgian cooperation in basic education in developing countries…”

Later in the afternoon, the princess accompanied by her children attended the Concours Reine Elisabeth Piano 2013 semi-finals held Studio 4 Flagey in Brussels.

His Royal Highness Prince Philippe of Belgium Attends the 2nd Edition of the Belgodyssée Masterclass in Brussels.

PhilippeOn the afternoon of May 14, 2013, His Royal Highness Prince Philippe of Belgium attended the 2nd Edition of the Belgodyssée Masterclass for young journalists held at the Centre de Presse International (Residence Palace) in Brussels.

According to the Belgian newspaper, L’avenir, today’s event:

“…was devoted to the optimal use of evidence gathered through social media and their impact on the dissemination of information.

Young journalists are aware of the impact social media has on the so-called mainstream media.  Today information gathering is often much faster though Twitter, Facebook and other social media outlets.  However, social media can affect the clarity of distinction between facts, rumors and opinions. Participants in today’s masterclass received advice from experienced journalists on how to respond to this changing media.”
