Their Royal Highnesses Prince Philippe and Princess Mathilde of Belgium arrived in the province of West-Vlaanderen (Province de Flandre/West Flanders) this morning for a one-day whirlwind visit.
The day began with a visit to the Musée National de la Chaussure d’Izegem in, well, Izegem. Afterward, the royal couple travelled to the town of Ingelmunster where they visited the Van Honsebrouck brewery. Soon, they were off to Harelbeke where they visited the Guldensporencollege (a school) and attended a reception held in their honor at the city hall.
Her Royal Highness Princess Mathilde of Belgium arrived at the Palais des Academies in Brussels this afternoon to attend the 2013 Prix GSK Vaccines.
The award is presented “…every three years to a French-speaking and a Flemish Belgian medical researchers who have made a significant contribution to the field of vaccinology and immunology…” according to the Belgian royal court.
On the morning of June 18, 2013, His Royal Highness Prince Philippe of Belgium arrived in Strombeek-Bever, Grimbergen, to visit Procter & Gamble’sBrussels Innovation Center. According to the Belgian royal court, during his visit the prince toured the center, attended a workshop, and met with company staff.
In the afternoon, the prince joined Her Royal Highness Princess Mathilde of Belgium and Their Majesties King Albert II and Queen Paola of Belgium at Château de Laeken to attend a reception for various ambassadors accredited to, well, Belgium. 🙂
On the morning of June 17, 2013, His Royal Highness Prince Philippe of Belgium arrived at the Palais des Académies in Brussels to participate in the General Assembly of the Club of the Rome EU chapter’s academic session. The prince is Honorary President.
In the evening the prince accompanied by Her Royal Highness Princess Mathilde of Belgium and Their Majesties King Albert II and Queen Paola of Belgium attended the closing concert of the 2013 Concours Reine Elisabeth Piano according to the Belgian royal court.
On June 13, 2013, His Royal Highness Prince Philippe of Belgium arrived at the Palais de Bruxelles to present the 2013 Prix du Fonds Prince Philippe and 25,000 Euros to Mr. Bert Ballegeer of the Belgian Homeless Cup.
According to the official website of the Belgian Homeless Cup the event is a “…social-supportive football competition for homeless people. Each year there are three national tournaments in which teams from Brussels, Wallonia, and Flanders compete for the championship title… ”
On the morning of June 13, 2013, Their Majesties King Albert II and Queen Paola of Belgium arrived in the resort town of Oostduinkerke (East Dunkirk) to visit the “… shrimp fisherman on horseback…” according to the Belgian royal court.
During today’s visit Their Majesties took a lovely hayride along the shoreline and met with locals who warmly greeted the reigning couple to their town. And, there is not much else to say except every looks like they are freezing to death.

On the morning of June 12, 2013, His Royal Highness Prince Philippe of Belgium arrived at the Palais de Académies in Brussels to attend the 2013 Prix Francqui. The prize went to Professor Olivier De Schutter from the Université Catholique de Louvain and Collège d’Europe. Professor De Schutter is also the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food.
