On Sunday, May 22, 2022, Her Royal Highness Princess Benedikte of Denmark attended the closing ceremony of the 8th Edition of the Special Olympics Sports Festival (SOIF) in Kolding.

Over the weekend, 1,200 athletes competed in various events. The SOIF is a grassroots sports event for people over the age of 16 with general learning disabilities or developmental disabilities, regardless of sporting level. 

Prior to the presentation of the medals, Princess Benedikte toured the festival arena. During her tour, the princess learned about the Healthy Athletes Initiative. The HAI is a health screening and education program for people with intellectual disabilities. The HAI provides the athletes free physiotherapy and a complete check of their physical well-being, teeth, and vision.

At the end of the Handball tournament, HRH Princess Benedikte presented medals to all of the participants.
