Her Majesty Queen Sofia of Spain visited the Centro Nacional de Biotecnología in Madrid on February 7, 2013. The purpose of her visit was to meet with members of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC).
After listening to a presentation Her Majesty was given a tour of the Centro Nacional de Biotecnología facility.
On Wednesday, February 6, 2013, His Royal Highness Prince Felipe of Asturias traveled to the Base Naval de Rota in the Cádiz province to participate in the farewell ceremony of the newly decommissioned aircraft carrier, Príncipe de Asturias.
According to the Spanish royal court during today’s ceremony the prince gave a speech. Here is what he had to say:
“Today is a special day for all of us and especially for me as Prince of Asturias. On this last visit aboard the ship there is pride and excitement yet sadness, but also the satisfaction. Pride in being a member of our Armed Forces and to wear the uniforms and to be part of this brilliant chapter in the history Spanish Navy now ends. It is emotional to dismiss our flagship and inevitably some sadness in saying goodbye to a ship that takes a beloved part of each of us. “
I also want to pay tribute to the many Spanish who have done their duty, that against all odds with total dedication, forward, with effort, with confidence, that have made his life a commitment with the honor and service to the nation, and they are an example that we should always look to honor and proudly pronounce the name of Spain.”
On the morning of Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at the Palacio Real de Madrid, His Majesty King Juan Carlos I of Spain received credentials from ambassadors from Australia, Italy, Canada, Senegal, France and Greece.
In the evening, His Majesty held a meeting with the President of Kazakhstan, Mr. Nursultan Nazarbayev. Afterward, His Majesty King Juan Carlos I hosted a dinner at the palace for President Nazarbayev and his delegation.
Oh, yeah, I forgot one important thing. His Majesty also held an audiences with representatives from Agencia de Noticias Europa Press and Agencia EFE at Palacio de la Zarzuela. And, that’s it. 🙂
His Majesty King Juan Carlos I of Spain was in Valladolid on February 5, 2013, to visit the Renault car manufacturing factory. The purpose of his visit was to celebrate the “…60th anniversary of the production of the 4CV…” according to the Spanish royal court. His Majesty also inaugurated the “…production line of the new model, Captur.”
During today’s tour His Majesty unveiled a commemorative plaque as well as met with representatives of Renault and factory workers.

On February 5, 2013, Her Royal Highness Princess Letizia of Asturias was in Madrid to participate in a meeting with representatives from the Federación Española de Enfermedades Raras (FEDER).
According to the Spanish royal court the Federación Española de Enfermedades Raras works closely with:
“…families and patients living with rare diseases. Through projects and services the FEDER helps to improve their quality of life in the short, medium and long term, in a society in which people with rare disease have the same opportunities in life as the rest, regardless of the rarity of this disease.”
On February 4, 2013, Her Royal Highness Princess Letizia of Asturias, as Honorary President, presided over the 2nd Edition of the Foro Contra el Cáncer organized by the Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer (AECC).
According to the Spanish royal court:
“…the forum was dedicated to the early detection of cancer, something that, according to the Princess, ‘we are all involved. citizens’ associations, public administrations, institutions, researchers, doctors, everyone. Each and every one of us, as ultimately responsible for our health.’ The aim of today’s meeting is to bring to the public the need to address the issue of cancer in a comprehensive way as the best way to ensure success in the fight against the disease.”
On February 1, 2013, Her Royal Highness Princess Letizia of Asturias participated in the opening of the 2nd Meeting on Enfermedades Raras y Discapacidad (Rare Diseases and Disabilities) held at the Teatre Principal de Maó in Mahón. The princess is Honorary President of the Federación Española de Enfermedades Raras (FEDER).
