Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands Visit Madrid, Spain. (VIDEOS)

On Wednesday, September 18, 2013, Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands arrived in Madrid, Spain for a one-day visit.

Once the reigning couple touched down at the airport they were greeted with open arms by Their Royal Highnesses Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia of Asturias as well as various Spanish officials.  Soon, the reigning  couple and their hosts were off to Palacio de la Zarzuela where Their Majesties King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia of Spain accompanied by Her Royal Highness Infanta Elena of Spain were waiting for the new king and queen of the Netherlands.

After a brief photo-op for the press Their Majesties were ushered into the palace where they attended a luncheon held in their honor and hosted by King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia.

Thereafter, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima visited the Congreso de los Diputados and met with the Spanish Prime Minister, Mr. Mariano Rajoy, at Palacio de la Moncloa according to RVD.

Her Majesty Queen Sofia of Spain was at the Palacio Real de Madrid this afternoon to inaugurate the exhibit entitled, De El Bosco a Tiziano: Arte y Maravilla en El Escorial.

The exhibit displays works by various artists including the late Alonso Sánchez Coello and Joachim Patinir to name a few.

TRHs Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia of Asturias Preside Over an Award Ceremony.

SpainOn September 16, 2013, Their Royal Highnesses Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia of Asturias attended the 2012 Premios Nacionales de Innovación y Diseño in Valencia.

The awards are granted to businesses and professions that have contributed the most in innovation and design in Spain and aboard.

News Regarding Members of the Spanish Royal Family. (VIDEO)

On Tuesday, September 10, 2013, Her Majesty Queen Sofia of Spain hosted a working breakfast during the Water and Cooperation: Spain’s Commitment to the Millennium Development Goals held at the United Nations headquarters in New York City.  During the event Her Majesty gave a speech.

This morning His Majesty King Juan Carlos I of Spain held audience at Palacio de la Zarzuela in Madrid with the Fiscal General del Estado (State Attorney General), Mr. Eduardo Torres-Dulce Lifante. Meanwhile, Her Royal Highness Princess Letizia of Asturias held her own audiences at Palacio de la Zarzuela.

HMSsOn September 9, 2013, Her Majesty Queen Sofia of Spain met with the United Nations Secretary-General, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, at the United Nations in New York City where she was presented with the Franklin D. Roosevelt International Disability Award.  Her Majesty accepted this prestigious award on behalf of Spain.

According to the official website for the United Nations prior to the acceptance of the award Her Majesty and Mr. Ban Ki-moon held a meeting where they discussed the:

“…upcoming High-level meeting of the General Assembly on disability and development scheduled on 23 September 2013. They also discussed the need to accelerate implementation of the Millennium Development Goals and the crafting of a post-2015 development agenda. 

The Secretary-General took this opportunity to inform Queen Sofia of the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Syria and of UN efforts to address this critical situation.”

Meanwhile, His Royal Highness Prince Felipe of Asturias recently expressed his disappointment during a press conference after Madrid lost their bid to host the upcoming 2020 Summer Olympic Games.  As you may or may not know by now Tokyo was the winner in the end.

 

 

Nevertheless, Prince Felipe also expressed his pride in the committee that supported Madrid’s candidacy.  Moreover, the prince is proud that Madrid — and Spain in general — is a strong supporter of sports and the Olympics and will continue to do so in the future.
