On November 9, 2014, Their Imperial Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan attended a concert by the Metropolitan Police Department Music Band in Tokyo.
According to Kyodo News, the concert was held to “…celebrate the 80th anniversary of their births.”
On Thursday, November 6, 2014, Their Imperial Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan accompanied by His Imperial Highness Crown Prince Naruhito of Japan, Their Imperial Highnesses Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko of Japan, along with other members of the Imperial family hosted the traditional autumn garden party held at the Akasaka Imperial Garden in Tokyo.
According to Kyodo News, over 2,100 guests attended today’s event including Sochi Paralympics alpine skiing gold medalist, Mr. Akira Kano.
On October 22, 2014, Their Imperial Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan viewed the exhibition entitled, Life of the Emperor and Empress, held at the Takashimaya Department Store in Tokyo, Japan.
On October 2, 2014, Their Imperial Highnesses Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan “…met with Her Imperial Highness Princess Noriko of Takamado at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo ahead of her marriage to Mr. Kunimaro Senge, son of the chief priest of the Izumo Grand Shrine…” according to AFP News.
On Friday, August 15, 2014, Their Imperial Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan arrived at the Nippon Budokan Hall in the Chiyoda Ward in Tokyo to attend a memorial service honoring the war dead as well as to mark the 69th anniversary of the end of World War II.
On Wednesday, July 23, 2014, Their Imperial Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan visited the Minamisanriku Sun Shopping Village in Minamisanriku in the Miyagi Prefecture.
According to Kyodo News, the town of Minamisanriku:
“…was devastated in the March 11, 2011, earthquake and tsunami that claimed more than 15,000 lives. [In 2012] the shopping village was opened and consists of 32 restaurants and shops.”
On Sunday, July 13, 2014, Their Imperial Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan accompanied by Their Imperial Highnesses Crown Prince Naruhito and Crown Princess Masako of Japan, Her Imperial Highness Princess Aiko of Japan, Their Imperial Highnesses Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko of Japan along with their family attended the Japanese Folklore Show held at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.
According to Kyodo News the show was “…hosted by Empress Michiko to celebrate the Emperor Akihito’s 80th birthday…”
