According to Kyodo News, last October the “…island was hit hard by mudslides triggered by a powerful typhoon.”
On February 25, 2014, His Imperial Highness Crown Prince Naruhito of Japan arrived at Haneda Airport to officially welcomed His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi to Tokyo, Japan.

In the evening, the emperor and empress arrived at Tōgū Palace in Tokyo to celebrate His Imperial Highness Crown Prince Naruhito of Japan’s 54 birthday.

In the interview, the future emperor spoke about his recent trip to Spain, his and Crown Princess Masako’s attendance at the inauguration of His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands last year, his daughter Princess Aiko, the March 11, 2011 earthquake and the devastating tsunami that followed, the “…postwar Constitution [which] has played a vital role to ensure peace in Japan and make the country prosperous…” and much more.
On Tuesday, February 18, 2014, His Imperial Highness Crown Prince Naruhito of Japan welcomed His Royal Highness Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud and his delegation as they arrived at Haneda Airport in Tokyo.
This afternoon His Imperial Majesty Emperor Akihito of Japan held a meeting with the crown prince at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. After the meeting the emperor hosted a luncheon in honor of Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud’s visit to Japan.
On the evening of Monday, February 17, 2014, Her Imperial Majesty Empress Michiko of Japan attended the AAR Japan charity concert held at the Suntory Hall in Tokyo.
During last evening’s concert Her Imperial Majesty and hundreds of guests listened as Mr. Kazuki Yamada conducted the Yokohama Sinfonietta Orchestra as they performed works by Mozart and Beethoven to name a few. Famed Japanese pianist, Ms. Hiroko Nakamura, also performed last evening. Proceeds from the concert will be donated to the Association for Aid Relief Japan.
On Monday, February 10, 2014, Their Imperial Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan arrived at the Edo-Tokyo Museum in Sumida-ku Tokyo to view a special exhibition which displays items that survived the March 11, 2011, 9.0 earthquake off the Tōhoku coast and the devastating tsunami that followed.
