Her Imperial Highness Princess Noriko of Takamado Participates in the Traditional Nosai no Gai Ceremony. (VIDEOS)

On July 4, 2014, Her Imperial Highness Princess Noriko of Takamado participated in the traditional Nosai no Gi betrothal ceremony in Tokyo.

According to the newspaper, Asahi Shimbun, the ceremony:

“…marks the official engagement of Princess Noriko, 25, to Mr. Kunimaro Senge, 40, a senior priest at the Izumo Taisha grand shrine in Shimane Prefecture.

The ceremony was conducted at the home of the late Prince Takamodo in the Moto-Akasaka district of Tokyo. Prince Takamado was Emperor Akihito’s cousin.

After the engagement ceremony, Princess Noriko and her mother, Princess Hisako visited Their Imperial Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko at their residence in the Imperial Palace and reported to them that Princess Noriko was officially engaged to Mr. Kunimaro Senge.”

On Wednesday, July 2, 2014, Her Imperial Highness Princess Mako of Japan, as Honorary President, attended the opening of the 21st Tokyo International Book Fair held at the Tokyo Big SIght Convention Center.

According to Kyodo News:

“…about 1,530 publishing and related companies from 25 countries around the world gathered at the event in the capital’s Ariake district to make sales pitches and market their books.”

Their Imperial Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan Continue Their Visit to the Okinawa Prefecture. (VIDEOS)

On Friday, June 27, 2014, Their Imperial Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan continued their visit to Okinawa Prefecture. Yesterday, the imperial couple visited the Kozakura no To memorial in Naha “…which is dedicated to those who died while evacuating Okinawa in advance of the approaching war (WWII)…” according to Kyodo News.

Thereafter, the emperor and empress visited the Tsushima-Maru Memorial Museum.  Whilst there the imperial couple met with the:

“…survivors and family members of the victims of the sinking of the Tsushima Maru. Approximately 1,500 victims, mostly schoolchildren, were killed when a U.S. submarine torpedoed their transport ship off Kagoshima Prefecture in 1944…”

According to Kyodo News, on Thursday, June 26, 2014, Their Imperial Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan visited a:

“…state-run grave in Itoman, Okinawa Prefecture, for the victims of the Battle of Okinawa.

The imperial couple visited Japan’s southwestern island prefecture ahead of the 70th anniversary of the sinking of a transport ship carrying hundreds of schoolchildren when it was torpedoed by a U.S. submarine in August 1944.”

According to FNN News, Her Imperial Highness Princess Mako of Akishino, daughter of Their Imperial Highnesses Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko and granddaughter of Their Imperial Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan, will continue her graduate studies abroad in the United Kingdom this coming fall.

In 2010, the princess studied at the University College in Dublin, Ireland as well as at the University of Edinburgh in 2012 as an exchange student.

His Imperial Highness Crown Prince Naruhito of Japan Visits Switzerland. (VIDEOS)



On Wednesday, June 18, 2014, His Imperial Highness Crown Prince Naruhito of Japan began his one-week state visit to Switzerland. The purpose of the visit is to celebrate the 150th anniversary of bilateral and diplomatic ties between Japan and Switzerland.

According to Kyodo News, yesterday the crown prince visited the city of Bern:

“…a UNESCO World Heritage site, with the capital’s mayor. He also visited a building where theoretical physicist Albert Einstein lived in 1905, when he presented a paper on special relativity, as well as a base for an emergency helicopter rescue unit known as REGA.”

This morning, Crown Prince Naruhito met with the President of the Swiss Confederation, Mr. Didier Burkhalter, in Neuchâtel. After the official welcoming ceremony and reception the crown prince and Mr. Burkhalter arrived at the Museum of Ethnography where they viewed the exhibition, Imagine Japan.
