On May 22, 2014, Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands attended the 2014 Appeltjes van Oranje award ceremony at Paleis Noordeinde in Den Haag.
The winners of this year’s award went to Stichting Buurtmarkt Breedeweg, Stichting AanZet, and Stichting MeeleefGezin.
On the morning of May 22, 2014, Her Majesty Queen Maxima of the Netherlands arrived at the World Forum in Den Haag to officially open ECSITE: Internationaal Congres voor Cultuur en Wetenschapscommunicatie.
According to RVD, ECSITE is the
“…European network of science centers and museums. The network has been established for the exchange of knowledge and expertise in the field of cultural and scientific communication. The theme of this year’s conference is, People, Planet, Peace.”
On May 21, 2014, Their Imperial Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan arrived in the Tochigi Prefecture to begin their two-day visit to the region.
According to Kyodo News, the visit is “…in line with their wish to observe the recovery of the environment once destroyed by mineral poisoning from the prefecture’s Ashio Copper Mine.”
On Wednesday, May 21, 2014, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh hosted the first garden party of the season at Buckingham Palace in London.

During today’s visit the super awesome duke unveiled plaque, toured the facility and met with staff.
