Members of the Spanish Royal Family Preside Over the Cruz Laureada Colectiva de San Fernando Ceremony. (VIDEO)

On Monday, October 1, 2012, Their Majesties King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia of Spain along with Their Royal Highnesses Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia of Asturias and Her Royal Highness Infanta Elena presided over the ceremony of laying the Cruz Laureada Colectiva de San Fernando held in front of the Palacio Real de Madrid.

The recipient this year was awarded to:

“… the banner of the Cavalry Battleship, Alcantara No. 10, in recognition of their heroic acts between July 22 and August 9, 1921, when the Regiment gave protection to the withdrawal of Spanish troops from their positions at Annual to Monte Arruit, a deed which killed most of its members (28 of the 32 officers and 523 members of the 685 troops).”

The Cruz Laureada Colectiva de San Fernando is the highest military award in Spain.

Their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco Attend the “South Africa Night” Gala.

On the evening of Saturday, September 29, 2012, Their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco attended the South Africa Night Gala Evening in Monaco.

Per a press release via Monte-Carlo SBM:

After a summer filled with artistic and cultural events, the Monte-Carlo SBM Group will be sporting a ‘Touch of Africa‘ for a week in partnership with the Emperors Palace in Johannesburg and as part of a tribute to South Africa, HSH Princess Charlene of Monaco’s home country.

The South African musician-songwriter-composer Johnny Clegg will hold a concert in the splendid Salle Garnier of the Opéra de Monte-Carlo. The concert will be followed by a gala dinner on the terrace of Café de Paris.

To prolong your culinary voyage, the chef of Emperors Palace, Dobby Doolooa, will be working together with Jean-Claude Brugel, chef of Café de Paris, and his teams, during the week of 29 September.

They will be dreaming up and creating a menu of South African dishes and suggestions. Epicures and gastronomes will appreciate the culinary journey and the subtle pairing of food and wine.

The Monte-Carlo SBM Group will be donating the profits of these events to the Princess Charlene Foundation.”  

Guests at tonight’s gala evening included Princess Charlene’s parents, Mike and Lynette Wittstock, as well as VIPs and local dignitaries.
