On the morning of May 11, 2022, Her Majesty Queen Maxima of the Netherlands officially opened The Jeroen Pit House in Amsterdam.  The Jeroen Pit House offers a new form of care for chronically and seriously ill children and their families.  The Jeroen Pit House is a place for the family to relax after hospitalization and where parents learn how to best cope with their child’s illness. This makes the transition from hospital to home easier, safer and more durable.

According to a press release, the Jeroen Pit House:

“…can accommodate eight families who temporarily move into their own apartment. In addition, there is also a shared kitchen and living room, there are work and play areas and the house has a sensory room, physio room, adapted bathroom, and playground.”

The Jeroen Pit House is a collaboration between the VanKarnebeek4Kids Foundation, the Emma Children’s Hospital of Amsterdam UMC, and the Lindenhofje of the Salvation Army.

During today’s opening, Her Majesty was given a tour of the new building, spent time speaking with several families who are currently living at Jeroen Pit House, and spoke with staff members about their work.
