(VIDEOS) Her Majesty Queen Maxima of the Netherlands Launches a New Website for Ukrainian Refugees.

On Friday, March 18, 2022, Her Majesty Queen Maxima of the Netherlands launched the new website, Refugee Help, in Rijswijk. The website is an “…initiative of the VluchtelingenWerk Nederland and SparkOptimus, in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice and Security, IND, Salvation Army, Navara, OpenEmbassy, ​​Pharos, Red Cross, UAF, UNHCR and many other NGOs, civil society organizations and private initiatives…” according to a press release via RVD.

Refugee Help provides vital information for Ukrainian refugees who recently arrived in the Netherlands. The website lists information such as housing, public transport, education, medical care, employment and legal support. The website also has a detailed overview of organizations and initiatives that they can call upon if need be. The information is available in English, Dutch, Ukrainian and Russian. Information on the website is continuously updated on the basis of developments so that Ukrainian refugees can find their way around in the Netherlands easily.

During today’s launch, Her Majesty Queen Maxima participated in a meeting with Chairman of the Haaglanden Security Region, Mr. Jan van Zanen, and the Chairman of the Council for Refugees, Mr. Frank Candel, who gave an overview of the website to the queen.  Thereafter, Her Majesty and the State Secretary for Justice and Security, Mr. Eric van der Burg, met with various refugees and representatives who helped create this important website, how the idea for the site came about and their plans for the future.

(VIDEOS) Her Majesty Queen Maxima of the Netherlands Visits with Ukrainian Refugees at the RAI in Amsterdam

On the afternoon of Wednesday, March 16, 2022, Her Majesty Queen Maxima of the Netherlands visited Ukrainian refugees in Amsterdam. The Dutch Red Cross and the Municipality of Amsterdam have set up a transfer location/humanitarian service point at the RAI where refugees are received and where help requests from Ukrainians are provided. The Ukrainian refugees are offered a place from the RAI where they can stay for the foreseeable future.

According to RVD, upon her arrival, Queen Maxima spoke with employees of the Dutch Red Cross and the municipality of Amsterdam about starting up the location and about cooperation with other organizations in areas such as transportation and information provision. The role of the Dutch Red Cross, aid in Ukraine and neighboring countries were also discussed during her visit.

Her Majesty also met with various Ukrainian refugees who spoke about the situation in Ukraine, their journey to the Netherlands, and contact with their loved ones who have decided to stay in their homeland. Her Majesty Queen Maxima also spoke with volunteers who told about their efforts to give the refugees a warm welcome and about their experiences at the humanitarian service point at the RAI. 

Her Majesty also participated in a round table discussion with employees of the Dutch Red Cross, the Salvation Army, Vluchtelingenwerk Nederland, and Takecarebnb, an organization that links refugees to potential host families.

(VIDEOS) TMs King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands Volunteer at the Zorgboerderij Op Aarde in Brielle

On Saturday, March 12, 2022, Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands volunteered at the Zorgboerderij Op Aarde in Brielle. Their Majesties participation is in connection with the NLdoet of the Oranje Fonds, which the royal couple are Patrons.

According to RVD, the Zorgboerderij Op Aarde is a:

“…is a farm combined with care and meaning; moreover, the farm aims to be a meeting place for everyone. In addition to producing and selling food, Zorgboerderij Op Aarde also offers room rentals and activities. In 2012 Care Farm On Earth was established. Elderly people living at home with early dementia can go here for daytime activities.

The daytime activities relieve the caregivers and ensure that the participants can continue to live independently for longer. The elderly work in and around the farm: they take care of the animals, do odd jobs in the workshop, keep the vegetable garden and help with cooking.”

During today’s volunteer work Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima pruned pear trees, cleaned the barn, tended to the animals living quarters, cleaned furniture, and generally had a fabulous time.

(VIDEO) TMs King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands Meet with Ukrainian Refugees in Ede

On Thursday, March 10, 2022, Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands meet with Ukrainian refugees and representatives from the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) at Harskamp, a refugee shelter army camp, in Ede, Netherlands.

According to RVD, last Thursday the first:

“…120 Ukrainian refugees arrived at the Harskamp army camp. The maximum capacity of 950 refugees has now been reached. In collaboration with, among others, the Red Cross, the Netherlands Council for Refugees and the Ministry of Defense caterer, COA received the Ukrainians and provided them with basic needs.”

During today’s visit Their Majesties met with Ukrainian citizens who had fled their home country, listened to their stories and expressed their support and condolences.

The royal couple discussed the role of the municipality of Ede in the “…reception of refugees with the village council of Harskamp and municipal officials. In conclusion, COA employees, various partner organizations and volunteers explained how they started the reception in recent weeks and what logistical and other challenges it entails.”

(VIDEO) TMs King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands Meet with Members of the Ukrainian Community.

On Tuesday, March 8, 2022, Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands met with members of the Ukrainian community residing in the Netherlands at the Paleis Noordeinde in Den Haag.

After the meeting Their Majesties said:

“People from the Ukrainian community in the Netherlands told us their story today. They spoke of their fear, anger and fathomless grief. About the love for their loved ones. And about their belief that freedom will triumph. The conversations touched us deeply. Ukraine deserves all of us support.

Also attending this morning’s meeting were the Ambassador of Ukraine, His Excellency Mr. Maksym Kononenko and his wife Tetiana Doroshenko.
