The board of Queen Margrethe’s and Prince Henrik’s Foundation and the board of Crown Prince Frederik’s and Crown Princess Mary’s Foundation have together decided to donate 1,000,000 Danish Krone (roughly $146,678.10) for victims of the war in Ukraine.

Under the banner “Together for Ukraine”, a large number of Danish relief organizations are making collections on 12 March 2022 for emergency help for victims of the war in Ukraine.

Her Majesty The Queen and the Crown Prince Couple wish to support the collection with a joint donation from Queen Margrethe’s and Prince Henrik’s Foundation and Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary’s Foundation of 1,000,000 DKK. In connection with the donation, The Queen noted:

There is war in Europe again. It makes me immensely sad to witness what is now happening in Ukraine. The progress and the hope that flourished in Europe after the fall of the Berlin Wall now crumble before our eyes.

Daily, we see pictures of the war’s destruction and injustice. Lamentable pictures of children and women who must say farewell to their fathers, brothers and husbands, who fight for Ukraine as soldiers, but also heroic pictures of a strong Ukrainian youth, who fight for the freedom they have a right to, and which they defend with their lives just now.

For us as Danes, the whole situation makes an indelible impression. We sympathize with the people of Ukraine and support all who provide relief and work to save lives.

May this senseless war be brought to an end as soon as possible.

Bravo, Your Majesty and Your Royal Highnesses!

Here is the list of the following relief organizations receive part of the total amount:

  1. ADRA Denmark

HRH Crown Princess Mary of Denmark and The Mary Fonden Donate Money to Help Ukrainian Children

On Friday, March 11, 2022, it was announced that Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mary of Denmark and The Mary Fonden (Foundation) have donated 300,00 Danish Krone (roughly $44,184) to support Børns Vilkår’s work to help Ukrainian children.

The organization recently started a fundraiser for “…children’s phones in Ukraine and the surrounding countries. Børns Vilkår will also be able to support Ukrainian children who come to Denmark and call BørneTelefonen…” according to a press release via the Mary Fonden.

In a statement Crown Princess Mary noted:

It is unbearable to hear about the many Ukrainian children who are currently going through the horrors of war.  With the donation, we at the Mary Fonden want to contribute to Ukrainian children having a place to call, where they are heard and hopefully can get some concrete good advice in the difficult situation they are in. Whether they are still in Ukraine and the surrounding countries or in Denmark.”

HRH Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark Participates in a Meeting with the Danish Red Cross

On Friday, March 11, 2022, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark along the Danish Red Cross Secretary General, Mr. Anders Ladekarl and Danish Red Cross National Chief, Ms. Marie-Louise Gotholdt, participated in a meeting in Copenhagen regarding the Danish Red Cross’ activities in Ukraine. The Crown Prince is Patron of the organization.

Per a press release from the Danish Red Cross, the humanitarian organization currently has a team of:

“… twelve men gathered in Chernivtsi in southwestern Ukraine consisting of i.a. logisticians, disaster coordinators and delegates specializing in mental health first aid. The team ensures that the emergency aid reaches some of the hundreds of thousands of refugees who are on the run internally in the country.

‘It is a humanitarian catastrophe that is unfolding before our eyes. I saw mile-long queues of pedestrians, mostly women and children, in the icy cold on their way away from fighting to safer places in the country. They need help – very basic emergency help such as food and blankets and hygiene items, but also mental first aid,’ said Anders Ladekarl.”

The meeting was also attended by the Danish Red Cross Country Manager in Ukraine, Mr. Antoine Terrien, via online. He reported on the very complicated operation that is currently underway in Ukraine. The aid from Denmark and many other countries is collected in warehouses in Chernivtsi, and from there it is distributed to all parts of the country by the Ukrainian Red Cross with logistical support from Danish Red Cross.

The Crown Prince asked Mr. Antoine Terrien how this took place in practice and how the communication takes place. The Mr. Terrien described how the Ukrainian Red Cross’ 6,000 volunteers and staff assess local needs and order the necessary emergency assistance. Regarding communication, Mr. Antoine Terrien reported on extremely difficult conditions with little or no internet and major operational disruptions on the mobile network.

10 days into the conflict, the Danish Red Cross has jointly distributed 600 tons of emergency aid, established six emergency aid depots and a transit depot. So far, 44 million Danish Krone has been purchased including blankets, mattresses, hygiene packages and food for distribution over the coming weeks.

“The primary reason why the Red Cross in Denmark plays such a large and central role is that we have worked in the country for many years and established a close collaboration with the Ukrainian Red Cross. It gives us a very strong starting point and enables us to work on behalf of the entire Red Cross movement in Ukraine, ”says Anders Ladekarl.

HRH Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark and His Two Youngest Children Visit the Ukraine Embassy in Copenhagen

On the morning of Friday, March 4, 2022, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark accompanied by his two youngest children, HRH Prince Vincent and HRH Princess Josephine, visited the Ukraine Embassy in Copenhagen.

The royal trio placed flowers in front of the Ukraine Embassy to show their support and respect for the country as well as its people. According to the Danish magazine, Billed Bladet, Crown Prince Frederik commented on the ongoing situation in Ukraine:

“It is infinitely sad what we are experiencing in Europe right now, and it is heartbreaking to follow the situation in Ukraine. My family and I are deeply touched by the images and stories we are witnessing daily. It makes a very big impression.

Fortunately, we can also tell our children about the unity that the rest of Europe and the world community are showing the Ukrainian people, and about the great relief work that is going on. It is important that we maintain hope and share the good that also happens in the midst of all the cruel.

Before starting school this morning, my youngest children and I made our way past the Ukrainian embassy. On behalf of my family, I send the warmest thoughts to the Ukrainian people.”
