On Friday, June 10, 2022, Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mary of Denmark visited Oslo, Norway.
The purpose of her visit was to promote Danish businesses as well as to attend the Danish and Norwegian conference entitled, The Green, Sustainable, and Climate-Safe City of the Future, held at the Oslo City Hall. Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway were also in attendance.
In her opening speech at the conference, Crown Princess Mary noted:
“In Denmark and Norway, we have set the goal of leading, we have the will and values we need to change. We have the ingenuity, the resources, the abilities, and the ability to succeed. These are complex issues that need to be considered in the long run and overall.”
The conference, which focuses on the role of cities in achieving the United Nation’s climate goals, was organized by the City of Oslo and the Danish Embassy in Oslo.
After Crown Princess Mary’s opening speech, the Norwegian Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr. Jan Christian Vestre, spoke about the government’s work with sustainable cities and green transformation. Minister Vestre emphasized the importance of good co-operation. His Danish colleague, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr. Simon Kollerup, followed up and talked about what Denmark has done for the green cities of the future.
During the conference, Danish and Norwegian business leaders exchanged experiences, and the importance of having a lot to gain across national borders for us to achieve a common goal of a greener and environmentally friendly development was emphasized.
In the afternoon, Crown Princess Mary attended another Danish-Norwegian business conference entitled, The Robust Healthcare System of the Future in Norway and Denmark. The conference took place in the innovation district Oslo Science City, which in the “…outskirts of Oslo in the future will house 30.000 students, 10,000 hospital employees and more than 30 start-ups…” according to the Danish royal court.
In the evening, Crown Princess Mary along with Her Majesty Queen Sonja of Norway and Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway attended the opening of the new National Museum in Oslo.
The new National Museum houses a large collection of Norwegian and international art, architecture, and design. The new National Museum also has a unique exhibition of Her Majesty Queen Sonja and the late Queen Maud of Norway’s gala gowns.
