The Un Prince en Mouvement : Albert Ier de Monaco et Les Moyens de Locomotion de son Temps photo exhibition retraces Prince Albert I’s interest in mobility, in 10 photos representative of his relationship to the means of transport of his time.
Known for his marine explorations the late Prince Albert I lived through a period of intense and abundant technological innovation in the world of transport, with increasingly diversified and rapid modes of travel, most of which he tested.
In 1868, at La Condamine station, he witnessed the arrival of the railway in Monaco, which opened up the Principality, and the major inventions of his time, such as the internal combustion engine which accelerated the development of modern transport, he himself practices navigation, horse-riding, car driving and finally motorcycling (of which he was a pioneer) as well as cycling (tandem and triplet included) over great distances, as an accomplished sportsman, and has sometimes directly contributed to the progress made.
Un Prince en Mouvement : Albert Ier de Monaco et Les Moyens de Locomotion de son Temps will be on display at the Gare de Monaco on the Sainte-Dévote forecourt until August 31, 2022.
