(VIDEO) HRH The Prince of Wales Stands In for Her Majesty The Queen During the State Opening of Parliament.

On Tuesday, May 10, 2022, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales accompanied by Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall and His Royal Highness The Duke of Cambridge attended the State Opening of Parliament in the House of Lords at the Palace of Westminster in London, England.

Yesterday afternoon, Buckingham Palace announced that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II would not participate in the State Opening of Parliament, “…The Queen continues to experience episodic mobility problems, and in consultation with her doctors has reluctantly decided that she will not attend…”

As a result, at Her Majesty’s request and “… with the agreement of the relevant authorities, The Prince of Wales will read The Queen’s speech on Her Majesty’s behalf, with The Duke of Cambridge in attendance.”

The State Opening of Parliament formally marks the beginning of the new session of Parliament. It includes The Queen’s Speech, prepared for her to read from the throne, by her government outlining its plans for new laws being brought forward in the coming parliamentary year.
