On Saturday, March 26, 2022, Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark accompanied by her two younger sisters, Her Majesty Queen Anne Marie of Greece and Her Royal Highness Princess Benedikte of Denmark, Princess of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, returned to one of her favorite homes, Fredensborg Slot in North Zealand.
In the evening, as per tradition since 1988, the citizens of Fredensborg partake in a torchlight procession from outside the castle gates until they reach the steps of the palace. So, what’s the purpose for all of this? Well, it is to welcome home their beloved queen. As the people sang songs, took photos, and cheered for Her Majesty there was something special in the air that made people incredibly proud of their queen and country. What would that be, you may ask? Well, it’s been two years since the people of Fredensborg participated in the torchlight procession thanks in part to the pandemic. Second, the town of Fredensborg will be celebrating their 300th anniversary; moreover, they were celebrating Her Majesty’s golden jubilee year (50th anniversary) and her government.
