
On Friday, February 18, 2022, Her Majesty Queen Mathilde of Belgium visited the hospital ship, Global Mercy, in the port of Antwerp. The Global Mercy is the largest hospital ship in the world; moreover, this impressive ship is equipped with:
“…with 199 beds, 6 operating theatres, a laboratory, scanners, an auditorium for the training and supervision of local nursing staff and a school for the children of the staff. Everything is managed by 600 volunteers.”
According to the Belgian royal court the Global Mercy “…aims to facilitate access to medical and surgical care for poor patients in Africa. This project is part of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, of which Her Majesty The Queen is a Patron.”
