It was announced by Kensington Palace that Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge has delivered a healthy baby boy weighing 8pounds 6 ounces at 4:24 London time.
His Royal Highness The Duke of Cambridge was present during the birth.
Mother and child are doing well and will remain in the hospital overnight.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, and His Royal Highness Prince Harry of Wales have been informed of the birth and are delighted according to Clarence House.
His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales released a statement this evening upon hearing the news of the birth of the new prince:
“Both my wife and I are overjoyed at the arrival of my first grandson. It is an incredibly special moment for William and Catherine and we are so thrilled for them on the birth of their baby boy.
Grandparenthood is a unique moment in anyone’s life, as countless kind people have told me in recent months, so I am enormously proud and happy to be a grandfather for the first time and we eagerly looking forward to seeing the baby in the near future.”
The Duke of Cambridge also released a brief statement to the press saying, “We could not be happier!”

Oh my goodness!!! I am so happy for them. Dang, that was a BIG baby. She didn’t look like she was carrying a 8 lb. 6 oz. little one…I would have never have guessed a weight that large. I am so glad everyone is doing well. They both must be exhausted and excited and everything all put together at once!!!
I am incredibly happy for them. I’m also happy to hear the duke and duchess waited for four hours before announcing the birth to the press so they could bond with the little one. 🙂
Though I know it won’t happen, but I do hope the press will also give the new family some peace and quiet after they leave the hospital in the next day or two.
