On May 16, 2013, Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands, as patrons of the Oranje Fonds, accompanied by Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands attended the 2013 Appeltjes van Oranje and the Oranje Fonds Kroonappels Awards held at the Koninklijk Paleis in Amsterdam.

In the evening, Her Majesty Queen Maxima of the Netherlands arrived at the Ridderzaal in Den Haag to attend the International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO) gala dinner.
According to RVD, this first European edition of the IDAHO two-day conference was organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science:
“Roughly 700 participants from the Netherlands and abroad, including the European Union, the Council of Europe, human rights defenders and students will attend the conference. At various locations in Den Haag, attendees of IDAHO conference will participate in various workshops to discuss the international developments in the field of gay emancipation.”
