On the morning of March 17, 2013, Their Royal Highnesses Prince Philippe and Princess Mathilde of Belgium, accompanied by their 170+ business delegation, arrived in Bangkok, Thailand for a six-day visit at “…the invitation of Their Majesties King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit of Thailand.”
The visit is intended to promote trade between Belgium and Thailand in the areas of “… alternative energy, pharmaceuticals, food and agro-industry, and logistics…” according to the National News Bureau of Thailand.
This afternoon, Prince Philippe and Princess Mathilde of Belgium attended the inauguration of a “…bust in honor of the former Belgian diplomat and at one time the General Advisor to His Majesty King Rama V, Gustave Rolin-Jaequemyns…” at the residence of the current Belgian ambassador to Thailand.
Afterward, the royal couple visited Wat Pho where they “… toured several of the Buddhist temple’s well-known landmarks, including the Reclining Buddha, guided by an English-speaking senior monk.”
Tomorrow, the Prime Minister of Thailand, Ms. Yingluck Shinawatra, will host a gala dinner at the Government House in Bangkok, in honor of the royal couple’s visit.
