‘Swedes Lose Faith in H.M. King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden’ Says a New Poll

In a recent poll by the Swedish television network, TV4, over a third of the population in Sweden have lost faith in His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden.

His Majesty King Carlk XVI Gustaf Presents the 2011 Prince Eugen Medals During a Ceremony at the Palace in Stockholm

On December 6, 2011, His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf presented the 2011 Prince Eugen Medal at a ceremony held at the Royal Palace in Stockholm. The Prince Eugen Medal is awarded to those for their outstanding artistic achievements. This year’s medals were awarded to:

  1. Goldsmith Helena Edman
  2. Sculptor Rune Rydelius
  3. Photographer Gunnar Smoliansky
  4. Textile artist Hrafnhildur Arnardóttir (Iceland)
  5. Architect Jan Gehl (Denmark)

T.M.s King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden Visit the United Nations Building in New York City

On October 21, 2011, Their Majesties King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden visited the United Nations building in New York City.  Whilst there the royal couple had a meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and Sweden’s UN Ambassador, Morten Grunditz.  After the meeting the king and queen toured the UN building and met with UN Swedish delegation.

Later that evening King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia along with Princess Madeleine (who currently lives in New York) attended the American-Scandinavian Foundation’s 100th Anniversary Centennial Gala Ball where the king gave a speech.

H.M. King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden Hands Out the New Entrepreneur of the Year Award

His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden was at the royal palace in Stockholm to hand out the New Entrepreneur of the Year Award on October 17, 2011.

This award is presented to “… two people with foreign backgrounds who have chosen to start their own businesses. With limited resources and hard work and dedication the winners have found success.”  His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf hopes that this award will inspire and so forth.

T.M.s King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden Attend the Birgit Nilsson Prize (VIDEO)

On October 13, 2011, Their Majesties King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden attended the Birgit Nilsson Prize held at the Royal Opera in Stockholm.  The winner of this year’s prize was Italian conductor, Riccardo Muti.

Swedish Royal Family News Regarding Their Majesties, H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria, and H.R.H. Princess Madeleine

The members of the royal house of Sweden have been quite active these past few weeks so here is a short wrap-up of what they have done so far.

First, on October 12, 2011, T.M.s King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia  visited Västmanland (a rough translation):

Their majesties day began in Köping where Governor Ingemar Skogö met up and welcomed the King and Queen. This was followed by a morning where the King and Queen briefed on important issues in Västmanlandslän, including the business community and the talent. Then followed a program of car museums in Köping where Per-Olof Johansson, who is chairman of the Automotive and Technology Historical Society showed round.

 After lunch came the King and Queen to the ABB high school where the King and Queen had the opportunity to meet students and get a tour.  Then there was a visit to the Automation Center which is part of Västerås Science Park, where business and academia can meet. The royal couple were asked to see samples of industrial robots that can perform elderly care in the home.

 This was followed by a presentation on the integration of the countries in which employees from both the County Board, Housing and Municipal Commissioner told us about their work. The evening ended with a dinner at Västerås castle with the governor as a host.

This afternoon, October 13, King Carl XVI Gustaf and H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria attended a symposium on the Royal National City Park held at the Swedish Museum of Natural History in Stockholm.  To view photos please click here.

Swedish Royal Family News including Sofia

On October 12, 2011 at the royal palace in Stockholm, Sweden H.R.H. Prince Carl Phillip presented scholarships from the Prince Bertil and Princess Lilian Sports Foundation.  This year’s grantees were Stefan Rundberg and Keijo Saari.  Last night, the prince and his longtime girlfriend, Sofia Hellqvist, attended a football match between Sweden and Holland (Netherlands).

And, finally on Tuesday October 11, 2011, His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf along with H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria attended the World Wildlife Fund’s annual council meeting held at Ulriksdal palace.  During the meeting King Carl XVI Gustaf presented several awards to various writers, photographers, and environmentalists for their dedication to the World Wildlife Fund and so forth.

T.M.s King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden in France

Their Majesties King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden are currently in France for a short visit.  This afternoon the reigning couple visited the Musée National des Châteaux de Malmaison et Bois Préau in Rueil-Malmaison, France.

The châteaux was purchased by Joséphine and Napoléon Bonaparte in 1799.  Today, visitors to Château de Malmaison can gaze upon:

… one of the rare examples of the ‘consular’ style that has been preserved in France and is fascinating for the authentic character which it still retains. They can also discover the very intimate atmosphere of Joséphine’s apartments, her collections of paintings and in the landscaped gardens, the empress’s passion for plants. source
