On January 31, 2013, Her Majesty Queen Sonja of Norway opened the 2013 Polar Jazz Festival at the Longyearbyen Kulturhus.
According to the official website for the Norwegian royal family the:
“… Polar Jazz festival not only brings together the local community of Svalbard, but also artists from all over the country. In addition, both visitors and residents to experience the joy of the local musical powers.”
