On October 30, 2012, Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark arrived in Nuuk, Greenland for a brief visit.
Today, Her Majesty’s participated in the opening of the Arctic Command held at the Kulturhuset in Nuuk. According to the Danish royal court:
“The newly created joint military Arctic Command is a military operational headquarters in the Arctic region, which includes both Greenland and the Faroe Islands. Headquarters located in Nuuk with a smaller connector in Torshavn.
Arctic Command’s primary task will be to lead and coordinate the deployment of military units in the North Atlantic and the Arctic. The project is part of the implementation of the Defence Agreement 2010-2014.”
