I was very impressed with the Royal Highness Princess Anne genuine interest in horse welfare. I had the most rewarding experience when she indicated that in the EU funded project that I am coordinating we should avoid tick boxes type of protocols to assess animal welfare. Our project has the European Union mandate to develop horse welfare assessment protocols and we will be in contact with the Royal Highness Princess Anne for further discussion how to implement science based welfare assessment protocols for horses.
