On the evening of August 3, 2012, Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark along with Her Royal Highness Princess Benedikte of Denmark and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Frederik attended various swimming heats at the Aquatic Center in London.
The royal trio cheered on Team Denmark’s, Lotte Friis, when she participated in the Women’s 800m Freestyle Final. Ms. Friis had tough competition. The young swimmer battled it out against Mirela Garcia of Team Spain and Katie Ledecky of Team USA. In the end, Ms. Fiis came in 5th with a time of 8.23.86.
The last swimming heat of the night was the Women’s 50m Freestyle Semi-finals. Ms. Jeanette Ottesen Gray of Team Denmark came in 6th with a time of 24.99.
Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge along with Their Royal Highnesses the Earl and Countess of Wessex were also at the Aquatic Center to cheer on members of Team GB. The first heat of the evening was the Women’s 200m Backstroke Final. Ms. Elizabeth Simmons of Team GB came in 4th place with a time of 2:07.26.
One of the major swimming events of the night (besides the Men’s 100m Butterfly Final) was the Women’s 800m Freestyle Final. Ms. Rebecca Adlington of Team GB came in 3rd place narrowly beating out Lauren Boyle of Team New Zealand. Ms. Adlington’s time in the heat: 8:20.32.
