On January 25, 2012, Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark participated in a press conference regarding an exhibit that showcases Her Majesty’s artwork entitled, Farvens Sjæl: Dronning Margrethe II’s Kunst (The Essence of Color: The Art of Queen Margrethe II).
During the press conference Her Majesty stated that she was “truly honored” when the Arken Museum asked if she would like to display her works to the public. The exhibition contains over 135 acrylic paintings, water colours and découpages. According to the official website for the Arken Museum, the exhibition, Essence of Color, focuses on:
The Queen’s artistic work demonstrated by a special interest in and a special talent for expressing herself through colour. Colours express states of mind.
Arken is showing works that the Queen has created for her own benefit alone, with no ulterior function and with no thought of public or viewers. Impressions of nature are transformed into freely rendered and unpeopled colour landscapes. Through the works we come close to the human being behind them, and they prompt reflection over the symbolism or essence of the colours. source
