Another Billed Bladet Interview with Miss Carina Axelsson: She Likes to Talk
Once again, Miss Carina Axelsson, gave yet another interview with Billed Bladet. This time she discusses that ring on her married finger, her relationship with HSH Prince Gustav, and her rocky relationship with his father, HSH Prince Richard of Sayn-Wittengenstein-Berleburg, and much more.
After reading this interview I have to question the purpose of it. Why in the world would she blab to the press yet she says that she wants her private life to remain private? Why give interviews?
Honestly, in my opinion, she doesn’t come off all that well in this interview. To me, she sounds bitter and somewhat snobby. It is known that Carina ALLEGEDLY loves to read about herself in magazines as well as what is being said about her on royal discussion boards (she said so herself two years ago in an interview with a Swedish magazine.) With that being said, I believe she realizes that not everyone is fond of her thus her strange attitude in the interview with Billed Bladet.
Here is the translated interview with Billed Bladet journalist, Annelise Weimann:
I went to Schloss Berleburg to see Carina Axelsson again before Christmas. We talked about her relationship with the Danish royal family, her work as an interior decorator, her love of Icelandic horses, her relationship with HSH Prince Gustav’s parents, HSH Prince Richard and HRH Princess Benedikte, and much more.
How is your relationship with the Danish royal family, Carina?
“I feel really well recieved by the Danish royal family, and I’m fine when I’m with them. It’s Gustav’s family and he loves them as do I. I don’t think about whether I’m considered a part of the family. I’m Carina Axelsson and that’s enough for me.” We see the Crown Prince and the Crown Princess the most as well as Prince Joachim and Princess Marie. I think it’s because we are of similar age. But, we do see the entire family regularly, both in the summer, when we are at Gråsten, and regularly through out the year. However, things can change now that the crown prince couple has moved in at Amalienborg. Perhaps we’ll see more of them in the future.”
Carina Axelsson and Prince Gustav have lived together at Schloss Berleburg for the past five years and they live in the main building. While HSH Prince Richard and HRH Princess Benedikte live in an adjacent one. Carina Axelsson is busy managing the restoration of the entire Schloss even though she has no formal training in the field. She also has a keen interest in books.
Do you discuss the work with Prince Gustav?
“Yes, I discuss everything with him. It’s his estate. He’s the person who says yes or no to all my projects. I have many ideas and he has given me free reign to do what I want. If my ideas are acceptable to him, he will back me up one hundred percent. Prince Gustav’s wish for me is to be happy here at Schloss Berleburg. I also inform HRH Princess Benedikte of what is happening. I don’t ask her for her permission, but I let her know what is going on so that she won’t feel left out.” Carina next project is to help out a school in Bad Berleburg.
What is it to live so close to HSH Prince Richard and HRH Princess Benedikte?
“It has advantages as well as disadvantages. I would not recommend all families to live this close, but that’s how it is here.”
Do you see the rest of the family much?
“No, not really. Our households are completely apart.”
Prince Richard in particular is known to be very frank?
“Yes, he’s special (I don’t know what she means by “special.”) He makes things more difficult. On the other hand, it has forced me to be patient. To find a balance within myself. So the outcome is good. HSH Prince Richard has a bad and strong temper. He is very direct. I didn’t grow up with someone like HSH Prince Richard, so it has taken me sometime to learn to genuinely get to know him. My father is a kind and gentle man. But, Prince Richard is not like that. HRH Princess Benedikte is a very sweet woman. Very friendly and very kind.”
HSH Prince Gustav apparently hasn’t taken over Schloss Berleburg completely from his father, HSH Prince Richard. They work together in the business aspect of the estate. Carina says, “HSH Prince Richard isn’t so much involved in the hard practical work, Prince Gustav is because he has to. Prince Richard’s generation spent their money in a completely different way compared to these days. Prince Gustav’s generation has to cut spending. The old way, Prince Richard’s way, simply won’t do anymore.”
The entire family is very fond of horses. How about you?
“Yes, but I prefer Icelandic horses. Years ago Prince Gustav and I went to Iceland. I have never seen Icelandic horses before, only in photographs. Since then I have became crazy about them. They are wonderful and beautiful horses. One day we will have some here at Schloss Berleburg. Fortunately for me, Prince Gustav also likes Icelandic horses, but honestly, the rest of the family does not. They prefer Dressage horses. That’s a pretty closed world; the world of Dressage is known to be quite special. I may get in trouble when I say that, but you are free to print that. Go ahead.”
Carina is also knowledgeable about dogs; she has one of her own named Amber. Apparently she is familiar with at least 200 breeds.
You often wear a ring with a big ruby encircled by diamonds. Is that an engagement ring?
“That’s a question I’d prefer not to answer. But no, it’s not an engagement ring. It’s a very beautiful and lovely present.”
From Prince Gustav?
“Yes. I will not say more about the ring. I’d like to talk about my work, but not my private life.”
We hope to announce one day that are going to marry Prince Gustav.
“I may never be married. I’m fully content by being Carina Axelsson.”
