Carina Axelsson sure has been a busy little beaver this week! This past Sunday, December 11, 2010, the permanent girlfriend to HSH Prince Gustav of Sayn-WIttengenstein-Berleburg, attended the opening of her art exhibit at the Bad Berleburg Museum.
The purpose of the event was to showcase her artistic talents as well as to bring publicity to Bad Berleburg, and the end result… a total success! Everyone was there. Even reporters from Denmark came.
Here is the English translation, per the German newspaper Siegener-Zeitung, regarding what happened that day:
Never before has there been in the City Museum Berleburger such a lightning storm, Mayor Bernd Fuhrmann said on Sunday. Responsible for all of this was the photographer for a Danish newspaper, which wanted to report on the opening of the exhibition by Carina Axelsson. Of course, the photographer focused on his choice of subject more to Princess Benedikte who attended the opening and her husband Richard of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg and her son Prince Gustav. The focus really was his girlfriend Carina Axelsson, presenting her illustrations and drawings.
On the ground floor are pictures from her children’s book, “Nigel from Hyde Park” . On the next level Carina Axelsson, however, shows some of her commissions and a portion of her latest current project. In a glass case there is a diary with drawings. ”For me, a diary is something that expresses emotions”, said Carina Axelsson. She not only writes in her diary, but she also draws in them [uh, okay]. With this exhibition, I wanted to show the path from idea to finished drawing on paper. ”Many see only the finished image,” said Carina Axelsson and pointed out how much work put into an illustration. ”Drawing is my life and my passion.”
Some words of the great esteem taught Countess Madeleine zu Solms-Laubach to the partner of her nephew, Prince Gustav. ”You are a very exotic plant in Bad Berleburg,” she said Carina Axelsson. [an Exotic Plant?] “She has always drawn and it is very imaginative. Her drawings are incredibly funny,” says the Countess. Carina Axelsson, a California native, modeled in Paris and during the evening attended night school where she learned to the illustrated. Her style is similar to Auchinleck – like every woman of every generation something typical taken to the castle was [odd translation. Sorry.] Carina thanked Countess Madeleine zu Solms-Laubach with touching words, this is one of the favorites in the Berleburg family, “We understood very well from the start,” said Carina Axelsson. [Huh?]
Mayor Bernd Fuhrmann then spoke stating that picture books are not only for children, but also adults had a magical imagination. ”They stimulate our imagination and we can sometimes forget about everything around. Such great images created by Carina Axelsson.”
The exhibition runs until January 23, 2011 the City Museum in Bad Berleburg. So if you happen to be in the neighborhood stop by the exhibit!
